Our History

From humble beginnings to one of the best in the west

1976

Herbert Morrison Technical High School opened on the 13th of September as a secondary institution. The original name for the school was Catherine Hall High School but was later changed to Herbert Morrison Comprehensive High School, being named in honour of Dr. Herbert Morrison, a philanthropist.

1977

With only 12 classrooms, very basic science equipment and a limited number of tools, the school embarked on the building of building of its own programme to accommodate a growing population and avoid adopting the shift system.

1988

The school was changed to a Technical High School. The curriculum was significantly modernized and all students upon completing grade 9, were placed in specific courses.

1999

The revolutionary principal Mr. Lloyd Winstanley, retired. He served from 1976 until 1999.

2003

Mr. Paul Adams became the school's principal.

2004

The school continued to improve its curriculum and support programmes. Grades 12 and 13 were introduced to prepare students for matriculation into universities, colleges and the job market.

Our Mission Statement

The mission of our school is to educate and train each student for effective production in the modern world and to provide each student with hands-on experience in at least one vocational area which will enable him / her to advance in a technologically changing world.

We promote Herbert Morrison Technical High School, by showcasing the school, its staff, its students (past and present) and their accomplishments in and out of the classroom. We have also created an online community that fosters a strong network of HMTHS past students that creates an increased awareness among past students on what is happening at Herbert Morrison.
